General Manager for Nashville Medical Trade Center Named
David Osborn to assume responsibility for managing world’s first permanent healthcare marketplace
DALLAS – January 28, 2010 – Market Center Management Company, the management company of leading trade centers and trade events around the world, today announced David Osborn has been appointed general manager of the Nashville Medical Trade Center, the world’s first permanent healthcare marketplace. Osborn previously was senior advisor for the international development project slated to open in 2013.
Osborn, who is based in Nashville, will be responsible for the strategic development, leasing, marketing, and operations of the Nashville Medical Trade Center.
This news comes shortly after funding was approved for the $585 million Music City Center, thus providing a re-use purpose for the existing convention center in downtown Nashville. When the Music City Center and Nashville Medical Trade Center both open in 2013, the total temporary exhibition space in downtown Nashville will reach approximately 800,000 square feet, including the new Music City Center, the Nashville Medical Trade Center, and the Sommet Center. This dynamic space will offer unmatched opportunities for global healthcare trade events in downtown Nashville.
“This appointment is another milestone of our accelerated schedule following the approval of the Music City Center,” said Bill Winsor, president and CEO of Market Center Management Company. “Our location is determined, our top leadership is set, and we are moving ahead to create a truly global healthcare marketplace in downtown Nashville.”
The 1.5 million square foot Nashville Medical Trade Center will feature three components: up to 1200 permanent manufacturer showrooms for healthcare product manufacturers, distributors, and information technology companies; more than 100,000 square feet of temporary trade show space; and conference facilities to accommodate a full annual calendar of trade event, education and training.
“I am thrilled to help lead this effort to create a new home for healthcare products, services, and ideas that will generate better business and result in better care,” said David Osborn. “Support from the healthcare leadership who recognize the advantages of a trade center is fueling our progress.”
Osborn transitioned to MCMC from his previous position as founding executive director of The HealthCare Solutions Group, a Nashville think tank he created to improve the healthcare system in the United States. The Group was a partnership between Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the Nashville Healthcare Council. He holds a Ph.D. in Management from the University of Tennessee and previously served as a partner for KPMG Consulting and on the faculties of Vanderbilt University Medical School and Abilene Christian University.
